A Parish in Mid Suffolk
Our resident sculptor, Sean Hedges-Quinn, has produced a number of notable public sculptures, including Bobby Robson, Bob Stokoe and Captain Mainwaring and has also been involved producing models for the Harry Potter movies and Thomas the Tank Engine TV series.
Sean was honoured at the unveiling of his latest work during June 2010. A lifesize bronze of Capt Mainwaring, aka Arthur Lowe from the TV comedy Dad's Army, was unveiled in Thetford by the series writer, David Croft. Also present were the actors who played the ARP Warden Hodges, the Verger, and Mrs Fox.
Pictured below, with Sean and Capt Mainwaring, is another village resident, Tony Logue, who modelled for Sean during the development of the sculpture.
This very jolly occasion saw Thetford and Dad's Army fans out in force. The statue marks a link between the series and the town; many of the outdoor scenes were filmed on the Stanford Battle Area and the cast and crew would stay in the Bell Hotel in Thetford.
At an early stage in creating the statue, Sean made a scale model, known as a maquette, which he later presented to Tony Logue for safekeeping.
